For this purpose, the hospital records of the first six months of life of 58 case-matched pairs of children, half of whom received OMT, were retrospectively analyzed based on their health problems. The case-matched control group consisted of a sample of newborns who received routine allopathic care without OMT. The analysis results show that OMT has a positive influence on the short-term (and potentially long-term) health of newborns. For those interested in the exact data: Methodology: The exploratory analysis of the medical records using Pearson’s chi-squared test was tabulated with the following variables, separated by the month of the visit in which the variable was reported:

Mention of spitting up/vomiting

Flatulence

Food intolerances

Irritability/insomnia

Suspected or diagnosed colic

Episodes of otitis media

Frequency of antibiotic administration

Frequency of upper respiratory tract infections

Frequency of lower respiratory tract problems

Diarrhea and skin rash

Results: The evaluation of the health data of the case and control groups showed statistically significant improvements after OMT applications in the case group, particularly regarding food intolerances, colic, spitting up and vomiting, and antibiotic use. Conclusion: Based on the results of this pilot study on the effectiveness of OMT in infants during the first six months regarding various health problems, the author recommends further high-quality methodological research in this area. Of particular interest would be the observation of a correlation between the timing of OMT application and changes in symptoms over longer observation periods, as well as the correlation of anatomical osteopathic findings with specific symptoms. The unique approach of osteopaths enables them to examine infants in a clinical setting and make diagnoses that could have potentially serious consequences if overlooked. OMT, as a manual application, thus offers the possibility of treating newborns quickly, safely, and cost-effectively (Mills 2021). Mills M V.
