Torsten Liem - Founder of the LIEM Institute for Psychosomatic Osteopathy

Torsten Liem is the founder of the LIEM Institute and the founder of psychosomatic osteopathy. With over 30 years of experience in practice, teaching and research, his name stands for a profound and integrative view of health and healing.

As an author, speaker and practicing osteopath, he has passed on his in-depth knowledge in countless training courses and seminars worldwide. His practical and scientifically sound approaches make him a sought-after teacher and speaker.

Torsten Liem is also the founder of the Osteopathy School Germany (OSD), where he was instrumental in developing academic teaching programs for osteopathy, sports osteopathy and pediatric osteopathy.

In close collaboration with international colleagues, he developed a method that not only treats symptoms, but also connects body, mind and emotions holistically. Today, the LIEM Institute trains specialists who share and promote this vision of modern osteopathy.

His extensive training spans numerous renowned institutions. He also trained in acupuncture at the Hospital for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China, and expanded his knowledge in the fields of psychotherapy, trauma therapy, NLP and hypnosis.

His specialist publications include works such as Psychosomatic Osteopathy and Cranial Osteopathy: Principles and Practice. He has taught and lectured in England, Canada, Brazil, Germany and elsewhere.

His approach combines osteopathic principles with elements of classical Chinese medicine, yoga as well as psychological and energetic aspects. His work is therefore aimed at both patients and therapists who want to deepen and expand their skills.

Why psychosomatic osteopathy?

Psychosomatic osteopathy looks at the person as a whole – physically, emotionally and mentally. This method recognizes that psychological stress can trigger physical complaints – and vice versa. This holistic training was developed at the Liem Institute and is being continuously developed there.

As part of the training at the LIEM Institute, you will learn how to integrate this knowledge into your osteopathic practice and achieve deeper, more sustainable treatment success.

Holistic solutions from PSO:

  • Combining manual skills and psychological understanding
  • Promotion of long-term healing processes
  • Use in chronic and complex complaints

The training at the LIEM Institute has a modular structure and offers you maximum flexibility. From the basics to specialization – you decide how deep you want to go.

Holistic solutions through PSO methods

The methods of psychosomatic osteopathy enable therapists to recognize the underlying causes of complaints and treat them holistically. These approaches help patients to release physical and emotional blockages, thereby triggering long-term healing processes.

  • Physical symptoms such as back pain or digestive problems are analyzed in relation to soma, physiology, the patient’s experience and contextual factors.
  • Specific techniques are used to activate the body’s self-healing powers, identify, differentiate and actively inhibit dysfunctional mechanisms and regulate emotional stress.

Why now?

Psychosomatic osteopathy is becoming increasingly relevant as the need for holistic therapeutic approaches grows. This innovative method not only opens up new perspectives for treatment, but also for professional development as a therapist.
