Since the beginning of osteopathy, somatic dysfunction has represented a central concept within osteopathy, according to Michael M. Patterson. Later osteopaths further developed Still’s approaches to the lesion concept, for which the term “osteopathic lesion” was coined, which ultimately evolved into the term “somatic dysfunction.”
