From A.T. Still’s Theory of the Osteopathic Lesion to Somatic Dysfunction

Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D.O., coined the original concept of a lesion based on obstruction of body fluids. In doing so, he referred primarily to bony structures, particularly the spine. Over the course of the 20th century, this evolved into the concept of somatic dysfunction, a term familiar to osteopathic physicians trained in the USA as well as osteopaths worldwide.
