The cranial base, in particular the synchondrosis/synostosis spheno-occipitalis, also known as the sphenobasilar synchondrosis (SBS), plays an important role in the cranial approach in osteopathy and in craniosacral therapy. This article examines the significance of the SBS based on scientific studies. In particular, it focuses on the mobility of the SBS in the context of its ossification, the possibility of visualizing cranial palpation patterns using imaging techniques, and the correlation of cranial palpation patterns with symptoms in newborns and adults.
