This involves using voluntarily induced trembling of muscles and connective tissues (technical term: myofascial vibration) to restore the body from a stress situation to a normal physical state. For many animals, this is a natural response: involuntary strong trembling immediately after a threatening situation causes the hormonal system and nervous system to gradually cease their overreactions. We humans have lost this natural, balancing response. However, we can relearn it and use it for our health. Initiating a process of muscle vibration through exercises can be traced back to certain yoga styles, Chi Kung, as well as to Haruchica Noguchi, Alexander Lowen, Mantak Chia, David Berceli, and other practitioners in the field of body-oriented psychotherapy. Fundamentally, any exercise that stresses the leg muscles sufficiently to trigger trembling through muscle fatigue is suitable. I practice myofascial vibration every evening for a few minutes to release the tension accumulated throughout the day.
